Introduction

About the DePaul Emeritus Society

DePaul University values its ongoing connections with its faculty and staff retirees, as it values their past contributions to the university’s mission. The DePaul University Emeritus Society was founded in 2008 with the merger of the Staff Emeritus Society and the Emeritus Professors Association. The Society is sponsored by the University’s Office of Mission and Values.

The purpose of the DePaul Emeritus Society is to provide a means for ongoing connection, communication, and socialization between the university and its emeritus faculty and staff, and between individual retirees whose professional lives were for so many years dedicated to university service.

Photos, events, and information of interest to members of the DePaul Emeritus Society will be posted to this blog. Please take a look, add your comment, offer to be an "author" or just enjoy.

In Memoriam - Helene Ramanauskas-Marconi

Dear Colleagues,

It is with great sadness that we have learned of the death of Helene Ramanauskas-Marconi, on January 17, 2013, at the age of 90.  Helene was a Professor Emeritus in the School of Accountancy, having served at DePaul from 1961 until her retirement in 1989.  She co-authored the book "Behavioral Accounting" in 1988 with Gary Siegel, and her legacy was honored in 1994 when the Helene Ramanauskas-Marconi Endowed Scholarship was established, awarding an annual prize within the graduate Management Accounting program.

Visitation will take place on Saturday, January 26, at 1:00 p.m. with a brief service at 1:30 p.m., at Damar Kaminsky Funeral Home, 7861 S. 88th Avenue, Justice, Ill.  In addition, a university memorial will be held during spring quarter.

Our condolences go to the family, friends, and university colleagues who mourn the loss of Helene. May she rest in peace.

Blue Demons

DePaul's men's basketball team on the rebound

The once-successful Blue Demons helped transform DePaul from the little school under the el to the largest Catholic university in the country. Can DePaul now help the team recover some of its fading glory?

Blue Demons point guard Brandon Young, left, is known for playing fearlessly. Center Donnavan Kirk, who was out for a large chunk of last season, is an elite shot blocker.

"Dave Corzine is legitimately excited about the future of the DePaul University men's basketball program. This is a new development.

"Sitting along press row at a game in late December, the affable former Blue Demons star and 12-year NBA mainstay, with a giant tan blazer draped over his 6'11" frame, observes a team with potential—10-5 through January 6. The Demons' director of community outreach since 2008, he also knows his bosses in the athletic department are keen on reshaping the team in a way that recaptures some of its past glory. "I think all the stars are lining up right now for us to really establish ourselves," he says"

The Reader has put together a great article about DePaul's current basketball team citing the influence of Ray Meyer, a reference to Dick Meister as well as some DePaul basketball history.
