Dorothy Mitchell, 84, of Wheaton and formerly of Chicago, died Friday, May 5, at home. She was born March 26, 1916, in Chicago. She was a longtime employee of DePaul University, working as administrative assistant to the president. She was a member of St. Vincent DePaul Parish in Chicago and then St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Winfield. She is survived by a son, John P. (wife June) Mitchell of Wheaton; four grandchildren, James (wife Kristina) Mitchell of Roselle, Christopher (wife Mary Beth) Mitchell of Elgin, Jon Jason (wife Leanne) Mitchell of Chicago and Melissa (husband Chad) Johnson of Wheaton; and five great-grandchildren, Carrie, Samuel, Ellen, Sarah and Ryan Mitchell. She was preceded in death by her husband, John S. Mitchell. A funeral Mass took place May 8 at St. John the Baptist Church in Winfield. Interment is private. The DES is open to all faculty and staff of DePaul University who have retired from the university with 20 years of full-time service and are 55 years or older, or have retired from the university with 10 years of full-time service and are 62 years or older.
