ReplyDeleteCorrections:
ReplyDeleteThis is the obituary for Fr. Thomas Munson, a Jesuit priest who was the former chair of the philosophy department at DePaul. Fr. Thomas Munster, C.M. was DePaul's Chancellor. Both men were amazing, especially Fr. Munson who was my Hegel professor.
Fr. Munster's obituary is at http://www.vincentian.org/newsletter/archive/0308/obit-Munster.html

Thanks Cathy, I have corrected the post and added Fr. Munster.
ReplyDeleteTom Munson grew up in Rogers Park and was close to his cousins, also in Rogers Park. Louis Falk and his sister, Dody, along with their first cousins, Bradley and Jack Carr, and Charlie Severin. They were like their own little gang that hung around together.
ReplyDeleteWhen they were in high school, according to my father, Louis Falk, they a literary group. I asked what they did in this group and he said they selected one book every month, they all read it and then had a discussion about it. Imagine teenagers around 1935-1937 starting a literary club.
Tom was a kind and compassionate human being. He also had a great sense of humor. My brother, cousin, and I were visiting him several years ago (we were in our 20s" and he told us that because he had his own apartment, every time his mother came to visit she always checked under the bed and in the closet to make sure he wasn't hiding any women.
I would have written this much earlier but didn't see this until today. Iw as thinking about him and looked him up and came to this website. He was a beloved relative.
