DES Grows

During the Spring of 2014, the University offered long-serving faculty and staff an incentivized early retirement program. The program was completely voluntary and extended to the entire population of the university, with the exception of the President's cabinet.

Faculty and staff who met the following criteria based on their age and years of service were eligible for the 2014 Early Retirement Incentive Program.

• Staff members at least age 55 with 20 years of full-time cumulative service, or at least age 62 with 10 years of full-time cumulative service, as of June 30, 2014.
• Faculty members who were tenured and at least age 62 with 10 years of full-time cumulative service, as of June 30, 2014.

The final date of full-time employment for these individuals was June 27, 2014.

The DES is pleased to welcome into our ranks those who chose to accept the Early Retirement program.

Over the summer, all new members will receive a letter from the DES welcoming you and inviting your participation, listing opportunities, noting the date of our Fall Luncheon (October 31 - Halloween), and providing the URLs to the DES Website and this DES News Updates blog.  Also, all new members will be invited to the DES Facebook page and receive the summer DES Newsletter.

Who makes up the DePaul Emeritus Society?

• We are 249 retirees strong - 33 more retirees than when we began in May, 2008
• Plus 58 spouses of deceased retirees join with us
• Of the 249 retirees, 61% are faculty and 39% are staff. (152 faculty; 97 staff)
• Our gender representation is 57% male and 43% female (143 male; 106 female)
• Our current retirees stretch over four decades with the earliest retirement date 1979 - more than 34 years ago.
• Our ages also span a few decades with our youngest retiree being born in 1953 and our most senior retiree born in 1915.
• 72% (179) of us live in Illinois; the remaining 70 live in 24 states, District of Columbia and two live in a foreign country.  About 44% of the out-of-state members live in four states: Wisconsin, Florida, California, and Arizona.

So that is a little bit of who makes up the DePaul Emeritus Society in the fall of 2013.  But there is one more thing that we all have in common and that is our decades-long love for the University, its mission and St. Vincent.

Here is a snapshot of the DePaul Emeritus Society as of Fall 2012:

• How many of us? We are 245 retirees strong - 29 more retirees than when we began in May, 2008 plus 60 spouses of deceased retirees

• Of the 245 retirees, 62% are faculty and 38% are staff. (151 faculty; 94 staff)

• Our gender representation is approximately 3/5^th male and 2/5^th  female (144 male; 101 female)

• Our current retirees stretch over four decades with the earliest retirement date 1981 - more than 31 years ago.

• Our ages also span a few decades with our youngest retiree being born in 1955 and our most senior retiree born in 1915.

• 72% (177) of us live in Illinois; the remaining 68 live in 26 states and two live in a foreign country.  About 51% of the out-of-state members live in four states: Florida, Wisconsin, California, and Arizona.

• How many of us? We are 230 retirees strong - 14 more retirees than when we began in May, 2008 plus 53 spouses of deceased retirees

• Of the 230 retirees, two-thirds are faculty and one-third are staff. (153 faculty; 77 staff)

• Our gender representation is 60.4% male and 39.6% female (139 male; 91 female)

• Our current retirees stretch over four decades with the earliest retirement date 1978 - more than 32 years ago.

• Our ages also span a few decades with our youngest retiree being born in 1953 and our most senior retiree born in 1916.

• 69.1% (159) of us live in Illinois; the remaining 71 live in 24 states and one foreign country. About 50% of the out-of-state members live in four states: Florida (11) Wisconsin (11), California (8) and Arizona (6).

• University records show the retiree with the longest association with the University, a combination of active full-time service and retiree status, is William Pasterczyk who started working full time at DePaul on March 1, 1942.

So that is a little bit of who makes up the DePaul Emeritus Society in the fall of 2010. But, I think there is one more thing that we all have in common and that is our decades-long love for the University, its mission and St. Vincent.

 Who Makes Up the New DePaul Emeritus Society?

• As we begin the DePaul Emeritus Society, we are 216 individuals strong with five more to join us at the end of this academic year.

• Of this initial 216, nearly two-thirds or 65.7% are faculty. (142 faculty; 74 staff)

• Our gender representation is 64.8% male and 35.2% female (140 male; 76 female)

• Our current retirees stretch over three decades with the earliest retirement date of 1978.

• Our ages also span a few decades with our youngest retiree being born in 1952 and our two most senior retirees born in 1915.

• 67.1% of us live in Illinois, the other third lives in 26 states and one foreign country. Slightly more than 50% (51.4%) of the out-of-state members live in four states: Florida (10) Arizona (9), Wisconsin (9), and California (8).

• Although not confirmed, it appears that Dr. Houk, who retired in 1991, but actually continues to teach part-time and work with the DePaul Geographical Society, probably has the longest active association with DePaul of 59 years!!!
