The DES is open to all faculty and staff of DePaul University who have retired from the university with 20 years of full-time service and are 55 years or older, or have retired from the university with 10 years of full-time service and are 62 years or older.

About the DePaul Emeritus Society
DePaulUniversity values its ongoing connections with its faculty and staff retirees, as it values their past contributions to the university’s mission. The DePaul University Emeritus Society was founded in 2008 with the merger of the Staff Emeritus Society and the Emeritus Professors Association. The Society is sponsored by the University’s Office of Mission and Values.
The purpose of the DePaul Emeritus Society is to provide a means for ongoing connection, communication, and socialization between the university and its emeritus faculty and staff, and between individual retirees whose professional lives were for so many years dedicated to university service.

Nearly 60 attendees enjoyed a great day at DePaul on October 21. We were feted to an Oktoberfest luncheon of beer and cheese soup, wienerschnitzel with spaetzels and red cabbage, followed by a piece of delicious cheese strudel. At our places was an ever-so-cute box of chocolates. To say the least, we were very well fed. Thank you Alice Farrell!

to expand ways for you to keep in touch with both your colleagues and the
University -- no matter where you live! Please take a moment to become familiar
with the following resources, enjoy the content, share some information or even
offer to be one of the content contributors.
The DES website is supported
by the M & V’s office and provides a window into the on-going activities of
the DES including projects and programs; past newsletters; committee minutes;
photos from DES activities; upcoming calendar of events; links to Human
Resource information, DES Scholarship efforts and volunteer opportunities; and best
of all -- audio/video interviews with some of our members.Look in the left hand column of the webpage for
hyperlinks to all the resources.If you
are new to DES, this resource will give you background and history. If you have been a retiree for a number of
years, you will enjoy seeing photos and recalling past activities.Both recent and long-standing retirees will
find information to stay current with DES activities.
If you want to know what is
going on at DePaul today that might be of interest to you, subscribe to the DES
Blog.Several postings a month provide
information about DES activities, HR updates, members’ deaths and general
information of interest about the University.To commemorate our deceased colleagues, a special effort has been made
to locate and post obituaries of all DES members who have died since 2000 --
nearly 100 obits are currently on the site.Anyone can comment on the posts and we have been touched to read what
some former students have written about their teachers.Even if you don’t subscribe, i.e., instantly receive
the post in your email, you can always just browse the site at your
convenience.
More than 30 members of DES
are also members of the DES Facebook page.Once you log on to Facebook, search for “DePaul Emeritus Society” in the
search box.Ask to be a member, and
shortly you will be given access.Anyone
who is a DePaul Emeritus Society Facebook member is eligible post to the page. These
posts are shared with all of the DePaul Facebook members.If you only want to connect with an
individual, you can send a “message” directed to just one member.The DES Facebook page allows a community to
be created – we hope you will join the DES Facebook community.
DES Newsletter
Bi-annually, news of the
DePaul Emeritus Society is distributed via the DES Newsletter using both the
internet and US post office, depending on how you have chosen to receive your
news.Our editor, Nancy Rospenda, keeps
us informed of the news of the past six months, dates to remember and most
importantly, what is going on with your colleagues.However, what she shares is only as good as
what you share with her.On the table
today and also via the DES Webpage, is a form to let us know “What’s new with
you!”We are sure you enjoy reading what
your colleagues have been up to, e.g., new grandchildren, travel, hobbies, publications,
etc. – and they also would like to know what you have been doing too.Fill out the form today and Nancy will
incorporate it into our Winter Newsletter.We all look forward to reading about “What’s new with you!”

Over 60 members and spouses of the DePaul Emeritus Society enjoyed the Fall Luncheon in the LPC Student Center. We were honored to have Cherif Bassiouni, one of us, as the guest speaker. He shared the accomplishments of DePaul's International Law Human Rights Institute - and a few funny stories too!
The Steering Committee Members informed the attendees of the various activities of the committees and the DES Website and DES Blog were unveiled. We were treated to a lovely Shepard's pie for lunch. It all seemed perfect on this cool Autumn day.
The DES now has its own website thanks to the work of Brian Cicirello and Alice Farrell -- both of Mission and Values. Although work is still being done on the site, it is already full of useful information for retirees. The site is organized as follows:
