Introduction

About the DePaul Emeritus Society

DePaul University values its ongoing connections with its faculty and staff retirees, as it values their past contributions to the university’s mission. The DePaul University Emeritus Society was founded in 2008 with the merger of the Staff Emeritus Society and the Emeritus Professors Association. The Society is sponsored by the University’s Office of Mission and Values.

The purpose of the DePaul Emeritus Society is to provide a means for ongoing connection, communication, and socialization between the university and its emeritus faculty and staff, and between individual retirees whose professional lives were for so many years dedicated to university service.

Photos, events, and information of interest to members of the DePaul Emeritus Society will be posted to this blog. Please take a look, add your comment, offer to be an "author" or just enjoy.

Vincentian Service Day 2016

DePaul University
Dear Members of the University Community:

Join more than 1,500 DePaul student, staff, faculty and alumni volunteers across Chicago on Saturday, May 7 for our 18th Annual Vincentian Service Day 2016. Volunteers serve at more than 50 community organizations, and truly put the mission in action. All DePaul students, faculty, staff and alumni are invited to participate.

Registration is now open for individuals and team leaders. But hurry, as space is limited. To register and for additional information, please visit serviceday.depaul.edu.

Inspired by the legacy of St. Vincent de Paul, Vincentian Service Day is one of DePaul’s most significant traditions, and makes the DePaul community an effective presence in the Chicagoland area. This year the event is framed around the issue of homelessness, and we will have special guest speakers and a social media advocacy action. After completing service, volunteers are invited back to the Lincoln Park Quad for the Service & Justice Fair, which will feature food, art, activities and music.

If you are unable to join us on campus, we encourage you to acknowledge this Vincentian tradition by serving others in your immediate community. We look forward to sharing this legacy with you on Saturday, May 7 at Vincentian Service Day 2016.

Sincerely,

Student Affairs

Vincentian Service Day

Don't miss the fun when more than 1,600 DePaul volunteers join forces with nearly 100 community partners across Chicago on Saturday, May 4th  for our 13th Annual Vincentian Service Day 2013.

All DePaul students, faculty, staff, alumni and friends are welcome to participate. Registration is now open for individuals at www.serviceday.depaul.edu but hurry as space is limited.

As a continuation of the Blue for Peace project (https://www.facebook.com/blueforpeace), this year's Vincentian Service Day will culminate with a picnic and a peace festival on the Quad.  DePaul's Blue for Peace Project is a response to the President's Interfaith and Community Service Campus Challenge, initiated by the White House.  Now in its second year, Blue for Peace continues with its goal to positively contribute towards addressing the pervasive issue of youth violence in the city of Chicago.

For questions, or to suggest a community partner that could benefit from DePaul volunteers, please contact serviceday@depaul.edu or (773)325-1192.

Those who cannot participate on May 4th are encouraged to sign up for an alternative day of service with Misericordia's Candy Days on Friday, April 26 or Saturday, April 27! Thousands of volunteers will be handing out Jelly Belly candies all day in exchange for donations. Visit www.misericordia.org for more information or email CandyDays@misericordia.com to register.

Sincerely,
University Ministry

Vincentian Service Day, May 5, 2012

Don't miss the fun when more than 1,200 DePaul volunteers join forces with nearly 100 community partners across Chicago on Saturday, May 5th for Vincentian Service Day 2012.

All DePaul students, faculty, staff, alumni, retirees and friends are welcome to participate. Registration is now open for individuals at www.serviceday.depaul.edu but hurry as space is limited.

This year we also encourage participants to contribute to the St. Vincent de Paul parish's Seton Sandwich Kitchen. The Seton Sandwich Kitchen serves approximately 125 poor and homeless guests each morning, Monday through Saturday, serving over 28,000 sandwiches, 31,000 cups of coffee, and about 1,000 special holiday meals throughout the year. Beyond a morning meal, the Kitchen provides a safe and hospitable environment for guests to find refuge and community.

Make a difference by contributing funds to the Seton Sandwich Kitchen collection table, on the morning of the event, ensuring warm meals throughout the year for our guests in need.

For questions, to register a group, or to suggest a community partner that could benefit from DePaul volunteers, please contact Ruben Alvarez Silva at RSILVAAL@DEPAUL.EDU or (773) 325-1193.

Sincerely, University Ministry Vincentian Community Service Office
